Tips for a Safe Spa Experience
Endless Spas is extremely serious about spa safety. We have listed some key safety tips below to help ensure that your spa experience is positive and relaxing.
If you have any safety queries further to this information, please contact your Endless Spas representative.
Barriers/fencing
- Fencing is a legislative requirement and regulations must be met prior to filling the spa. Check legislation in your area by contacting your local council.
- Fencing and gates should be checked periodically to ensure they continue to satisfy regulations.
Chemical handling
- Store chemicals and cleaning compounds in a dry, cool and well ventilated location – away from sunlight and access by children.
- Do not mix chemicals together before they are added to the spa – only add them to the spa.
Children
- Never leave children unsupervised in the spa – even low water levels can pose a drowning hazard.
- Slowly introduce infants into the spa so that they can adjust to the temperature.
- Acquaint littlies with the bubbles and jets – while fun, they can at first be intimidating.
- Explain the safety rules such as never play with your head underwater.
- Don not leave furniture or other items that children can climb on near your spa fence.
- When not in use, ensure that your spa cover has a lock or straps to secure it tightly. This will help to prevent a curious child from crawling under. Spa covers are not a substitute for a fence or not supervising a child.
Etiquette
- Protect your family and friends by banning ‘rough-house’ play around or in the spa. Display a sign that clearly outlines the rules of using the spa.
Food and drinks
- Serve food and drinks in plastic containers, as glass can break and possibly cause injury.
- Do not drink alcohol in spas – hot water can magnify the effects and can be dangerous.
Electrical devices
- As around any water, do not handle an electrical device when in or around spas. This includes a radio, television, hair dryer or corded telephone.
- Ensure that power points are located a safe distance away from the spa.
- Endless Spas are fitted with a XX, which means that in case of emergency, they immediately kick in to prevent an accident. However this involves having your spa professionally fitted by a qualified electrician.
Hair
- Do not put your head underwater in a spa; hair can become entangled in a drain cover and pose a drowning risk.
Installation
- Ensure that a qualified electrician and plumber install your spa.
Medical conditions
- If you are pregnant, or have a serious illness or a medical condition such as high or low blood pressure, diabetes or heart disease, consult your doctor before relaxing in a spa.
Slip ups
- To prevent slipping, install a handrail to assist with safely hopping in and out of the spa.
- Consider non-skid surfaces for the immediate area surrounding the spa.
- Keep towels handy for drying feet and hands when exiting the spa.
- If using the spa at night, ensure the area is properly lit.
Temperature
- Keep water temperature below 40 degrees (between 35 and 38 is ideal according to SPASA Victoria) and try not to soak beyond 20 minutes.
Water quality
- Ensure that the water in your spa is maintained properly. For tips, visit www.endlessspa.com.au to register your warranty online and become an E-Club Member.
- Regularly check total alkalinity, pH and sanitiser (chlorine or bromine) levels.
- Ensure the filter and pump are kept clean.
